CM Yogi Adityanath Conducted On-Ground Inspections in Varanasi, Distributed Flood Relief Materials

Varanasi : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a series of inspections and relief activities during his visit to Varanasi today. The CM first visited the campus of the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, where he reviewed the under-construction Sowa Rigpa Medical College, a major initiative to promote the traditional Tibetan system of medicine.

The CM also visited flood-affected areas in Salarpur, where he personally distributed relief materials to displaced families. He directed officials to ensure proper arrangements for accommodation, sanitation, medical aid, food, and clean drinking water at all relief camps. “No one should face any inconvenience,” he emphasized.

Following this, the Chief Minister inspected the Sangeet Pathway near the Central Jail. The 1.5-km long, 15-feet wide musical corridor in Shivpur, built parallel to the jail boundary from Phulwaria Tiraha, is nearly 90% complete. The pathway features portraits and biographical descriptions of renowned musicians from the Banaras Gharana, along with the installation of traditional instruments such as the shehnai and tabla.

In a spiritual gesture, the Chief Minister also offered prayers at the historic Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Shri Kal Bhairav Temple.

The Sowa Rigpa system—an ancient and authentic form of medicine rooted in Tibetan traditions—has spread across regions such as China, Mongolia, Russia, Nepal, and parts of India. Originating between the 7th and 8th centuries, it gained prominence after Tibetan kings organized international conferences that saw participation from medical scholars across Persia, China, and other regions.

The Sowa Rigpa Medical College in Sarnath is being constructed at a cost of ₹93 crore through a joint effort of the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments. The 100-bed facility will feature six consultant rooms (including astrology consultation), a large waiting hall, modern emergency and ICU units, operation theatres, therapy sections, indoor patient wards, pharmacy, classrooms, library, museum, lab, herbarium, and a ‘Nakshatra Shala’, among other amenities. The institution aims to blend ancient wisdom with modern clinical practices, supported by thousands of related texts and over 10,000 published works.

Present on the occasion were Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, Labour and Employment Minister Anil Rajbhar, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Stamp and Court Fees & Registration Ravindra Jaiswal, along with several public representatives and senior administrative officials.
